In 2019, I was first put in touch with Avi Itzkovitch, to pitch a UX writing talk. Avi is the producer of UX Salon, one of the two big UX conferences in Israel, and UX writing/content design was never represented in the agenda. Long story short, what started as pitching a talk, became a whole spinoff conference. The conversation went from, “What is UX writing and why is it worth talking about at all?” to “This is way too big for a talk! It needs a whole event!” and UX Salon Words was born. During the pandemic, I spoke at UX Salon Words twice; UX Salon proper was put on hold. Now, it’s back!

I’m thrilled to be speaking at UX Salon this year because: a) it’s a wider UX event, and while product writing-specific conferences like Button are super important, being an active part of the greater UX and product communities is, too. It’s a chance to talk to more people, garner more support for the practice and more collaborative will, and it’s a chance to talk about different aspects of what we do than we talk about with people who do it all day long.

And b) I’m super excited because it’s in person! The last in-person event I spoke at was more than two years ago. While there are so many great things about virtual talks, primarily the access for people around the globe, there is no high like a proper stage. The energy of an in-person event cannot be rivaled by the best online production (and there are some great ones out there).

I’ll be giving a brand new talk, about when to break best practices. I hope it will be fun and useful, and look forward to the “salon” bit of UX Salon where I’ll chat with Avi from the couch on stage for live Q&A and such.

Hope to see you there! Register for UX Salon 2022
